Properties:
Selgon is a centrally acting cough suppressant that also has some peripheral action on non-productive cough. It starts working within 10-30 minutes and its effect lasts for several hours. Selgon has the advantage of being non-addictive and does not cause respiratory depression.
Indications:
Non-productive irritating and spasmodic cough; for example, smokers’ cough and cold symptoms that include a non-productive cough.
Method of administration and dosage:
Children 2-6 years old:
1 suppository 2-3 times a day.
Children 6-12 years old:
1 suppository 3 times a day
Contraindications:
For patients with sugar intolerance.
Precautions:
Selgon may cause drowsiness, so patients driving vehicles or operating machinery should be warned.
Side effects:
Drowsiness, nausea, anxiety, insomnia, urticaria.
Storage method:
At a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees.
