Properties:
Piperazine has been known for many years as an effective drug in the treatment of gout and urinary tract lithiasis.
It increases the solubility of urates in urine and has low toxicity.
Colchicine provides rapid pain relief in acute attacks of gout, and the drug is specific for this condition, so it can be used as a diagnostic tool for gout and gouty arthritis. Colchicine has anti-inflammatory properties. Although it is very effective in the treatment of acute gouty arthritis, it is not effective for other types of pain. It is not an analgesic and does not affect uric acid clearance. Instead, colchicine binds to the microtubule proteins of neutrophils. This binding, in turn, inhibits the migration of neutrophils to the site of inflammation, thereby interfering with the inflammatory response to urate crystal deposition.
Atropine sulfate is added to relieve urinary tract spasm.
