Description
Trade name:
Kalobin
Compound:
Each 20 ml of solution contains:
alcohol extract of the roots of Pelargonium sidoides (1:8-10) 16.66 ml
Standardized for the content of total phenols from 0.1% to 0.6%.
Properties:
Liquid extract of pelargonium sidoides roots contains a large number of biologically active substances, which together determine its pharmacological activity. The drug is of plant origin. It has an antimicrobial effect, has mucolytic properties. It helps to increase the non-specific resistance of the body.
Indications:
Acute and chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (bronchitis) – as part of complex therapy.
Method of administration and dosage:
The drug is taken orally, 30 minutes before meals with a small amount of liquid.
Adults and children over 12 years old are prescribed 20-30 drops 3 times a day, children aged 6 to 12 years – 10-20 drops 3 times a day, children aged 1 to 6 years – 5-10 drops 3 times a day.
When dosing the drug, the bottle should be held vertically, if necessary, tapping the bottom of the bottle.
The average duration of the course of treatment is 10 days. After the symptoms of the disease disappear, it is recommended to continue treatment for several days to prevent relapse.
Contraindications:
- Predisposition to bleeding;
- severe liver failure;
- severe renal failure;
- children under 1 year of age (due to the presence of ethyl alcohol in the drug);
- concomitant use of anticoagulants;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
The drug should be used with caution in cases of alcoholism, traumatic brain injury, brain disease, liver and kidney dysfunction (no experience of use).
Precautions:
During storage, liquid plant extracts tend to become cloudy, however, this does not affect their pharmacological effectiveness. Since Kalobin is a natural product, minor changes in the color and taste of the drug are possible.
Due to the ethanol content (12%/vol.) in the preparation, it should be taken into account that the maximum single dose for children over 12 years of age and adults contains 0.125 g of pure ethyl alcohol, the maximum daily dose for children over 12 years of age and adults contains 0.375 g of pure ethyl alcohol. A single dose for children under 12 years of age contains less than 0.1 g of pure ethyl alcohol.
If there is no therapeutic effect after taking the drug for 7 days, if the elevated body temperature persists for several days, shortness of breath or bloody sputum appears, or signs of liver dysfunction appear (such as yellowing of the skin, yellowing of the sclera of the eyes), the patient should consult a doctor.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery:
When using the drug, caution should be exercised when engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving vehicles, working with moving mechanisms).
Side effects:
From the respiratory system: rarely – nosebleeds.
From the digestive system: uncommon – nausea, vomiting, pain in the epigastric region, diarrhea; rare – minor bleeding gums.
From the hepatobiliary system: frequency unknown – signs of liver dysfunction (yellowing of the skin, yellowing of the sclera of the eyes); the connection of this manifestation with the use of the drug has not been confirmed.
Others: rarely – allergic reactions.
Storage method:
At a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
