Description
Trade name:
Gaviscon
Compound :
Each sachet contains:
sodium alginate 500 mg
sodium bicarbonate 267mg
calcium carbonate 160 mg
Excipients: carbomer; methyl parahydroxybenzoate; propyl parahydroxybenzoate; sodium hydroxide; sodium saccharinate; mint flavoring; purified water.
Properties:
This medicinal product is a combination of alginate and antacids (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate). When taken orally, the product reacts quickly with the acidic contents of the stomach. This forms an alginate gel with a nearly neutral pH value. The gel forms a protective coating on the surface of the stomach contents and acts for up to 4 hours, effectively preventing the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux.
In case of regurgitation, the gel gets into the esophagus, where it reduces irritation of the mucous membrane. Calcium carbonate quickly neutralizes hydrochloric acid of gastric juice, relieving the feeling of heartburn. This effect is enhanced by the presence of sodium bicarbonate in the composition of the drug, which also has a neutralizing effect.
Indications:
Symptomatic treatment of diseases associated with digestive disorders, increased acidity of gastric juice and gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, sour belching), a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, discomfort after eating.
Method of administration and dosage:
Orally. Adults and children over 12 years old – 1-2 sachets of 10 ml after meals and before bedtime (up to 4 times a day).
The maximum daily dose is 80 ml.
No dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Contraindications:
-hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug;
– children under 12 years of age.
With caution: severe renal impairment; hypophosphatemia; hypercalcemia; nephrocalcinosis.
Precautions:
The drug Gaviscon contains antacids, which can mask the symptoms of serious gastrointestinal diseases. The effectiveness of the drug may be reduced in patients with very low levels of gastric acidity. In children with gastroenteritis or suspected renal failure, there is an increased risk of hypernatremia. The drug should not be used for a long time; if there is no improvement in the condition within 7 days, you should consult a doctor.
Side effects:
In rare cases (<1/10000) allergic reactions (urticaria, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reactions) are possible. Taking large amounts (more than recommended doses) of calcium carbonate can cause alkalosis, hypercalcemia, milk-alkali syndrome, rebound phenomenon, constipation.

At a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. In a dry place.
