Description
Trade name:
Cipro
Compound:
10 ml of solution contains:
Ciprofloxacin 30 mg
Properties:
A broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, a fluoroquinolone derivative.
Suppresses bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerases II and IV, responsible for the process of supercoiling of chromosomal DNA around nuclear RNA, which is necessary for reading genetic information), disrupts DNA synthesis, growth and division of bacteria; causes pronounced morphological changes (including cell walls and membranes) and rapid death of the bacterial cell.
It has a bactericidal effect on gram-negative organisms during the dormant and division periods (since it affects not only DNA gyrase, but also causes lysis of the cell wall), and on gram-positive microorganisms – only during the division period.
Low toxicity for the cells of the macroorganism is explained by the absence of DNA gyrase in them. Against the background of taking ciprofloxacin, there is no parallel development of resistance to other antibiotics that do not belong to the group of gyrase inhibitors, which makes it highly effective against bacteria that are resistant, for example, to aminoglycosides, penicillins, cephalosporins, tetracyclines and many other antibiotics.
Indications:
Cipro is indicated for localized or diffuse otitis externa, accompanied by a strong inflammatory reaction caused by microorganisms sensitive to ciprofloxacin.
Method of administration and dosage:
First, thoroughly clean the external auditory canal. It is preferable to administer the solution at room temperature, or even better, at body temperature. Apply the drug dropwise into the external ear canal, the dosage is 3 to 4 drops 2-4 times a day or more often if necessary. The patient should first lie down on the side opposite to the affected area and should remain in this position for 5-10 minutes. Then it is advisable to close the ear canal with a cotton swab, which should be left for 1-2 hours. In general, the duration of treatment does not exceed 5-10 days. In some cases, treatment may be extended. As with all antibacterial drugs, prolonged use may lead to excessive growth of resistant microorganisms, or fungi.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Pregnancy and lactation, since controlled studies in pregnant women have not been conducted. Cipro should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. The excretion of ciprofloxacin in breast milk after local administration has not been studied, so caution should be exercised when prescribing Ciprofloxacin to nursing mothers.
Precautions:
As with other antibacterial drugs, long-term use of Ciprofloxacin may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
Ciprofloxacin should be discontinued at the first appearance of skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity reactions.
Incompatibility: alkaline solutions.
Drug interactions:
Specific drug interaction studies with ciprofloxacin ear drops have not been conducted, as the systemic effect can be considered insignificant.
Impact on ability to drive and use machines:
There are no data on the effects of Cipro used in these conditions.
Side effects
The ingredients are low sensitizing, however, as with any substance, an allergic reaction to any of these ingredients may occur when applied to the skin.
Storage method:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees in a dark place.
Package:
The cardboard box contains a plastic bottle with a dropper containing 10 ml of the drug and paper instructions.
