Properties:
Albendazole is a broad-spectrum antiprotozoal and anthelmintic drug, a derivative of benzimidazole carbamate.
Albendazole occurs with the occurrence of increased transport activity, increased polymerization of beta-tubulin, the development of a disorder of the microtubular apparatus with the occurrence of a helminth, which leads to its occurrence and is detected from the human body.
active in detecting intestinal parasites that cause cutaneous Larva Migrans syndrome (wandering larva syndrome)
– Nematodes (roundworms): Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Trichocephalus trichiuris (whipworm), Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm), Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm), Necator americanus, Strongyloides stercoralis, Trichinella spiralis;
– Cestoidea (exact worms): Hymenolepsis nana (dwarf tapeworm), Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm);
– Pretosae (protozoa): Giardia lamblia (intestinal or duodenal).
Albendazole is active against tissue parasites, Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis, causing cystic and alveolar echinococcosis. Albendazole is effective in the treatment of hepaticolasis caused by Capilaria philippinensis. Most applications for the treatment of ascariasis are effective only if this helminthiasis is detected.
Albendazole is effective at all stages of development of ascaris, trichinella. The effectiveness is 95-100%.
Indications:
– enterobteriosis
– ancylostomiasis and necatoriasis
– hymenolepiasis
– taeniasis
– strongyloidiasis
– ascariasis
– trichuriasis
– cutaneous Larva Migrans syndrome
– giardiasis
– cystic echinococcosis (hepatic, alveolar, peritoneal)
– trichinosis
Method of administration and dosage:
take during or after meals, do not chew the tablets, wash them down with water. The use of laxatives and a special diet is not required. combining the joint use of all family members. The dosage is individual, depending on the type of helminth and the body weight of the patient. For patients who are unable to swallow the infection tablet, it is recommended to crush it and wash it down with a flavoring liquid.
The dosage regimen is set individually depending on age, body weight, and the severity of the infection.
Intestinal infection and skin syndrome Larva migrans:
400 mg once a day (1 tablet) for 3 days.
For hymenolepiasis, a course of treatment lasting from 10 to 21 days is recommended.
Systemic helminth infections:
The dose for patients weighing more than 60 kg is 400 mg (1 tablet) 2 times a day.
For weight less than 60 kg, the drug is calculated as 15 mg/kg per day. This dose should be divided into 2 doses.
Contraindications:
-hypersensitivity to albendazole and other components of the drug
– retinal pathology
– galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose/galactose malabsorption
– pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions:
Albendazole may cause bone marrow suppression, therefore, blood tests should be monitored at the beginning and every two weeks of each 28-day cycle. Patients with liver disease, including echinococcosis, the severity of increased liver mass to a decrease in bone marrow, leading to pancytopenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis and leukopenia, which requires careful monitoring of blood counts. In the presence of a reduced level of formed elements of the blood, Albendazole should be discontinued. During long-term treatment, it is necessary to monitor peripheral blood (once every 5-7 days) and aminotransferases at the same time.
Taking Albendazole for the treatment of systemic helminthic diseases can cause seizures, increased intracranial pressure and focal symptoms associated with the death of parasites. If necessary, it is necessary to start treatment with steroids and anticonvulsants. In case of eye damage, before starting treatment, it is necessary to retinal.

Very common:
– headache
– moderate or moderate increase in liver enzymes

– leukopenia
– hepatitis
Very rare:
– pancytopenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis (patients with liver pathology, including liver echinococcosis, are more prone to bone marrow suppression)
