Description
Trade name:
Bivatracin
Compound:
Each 150 ml spray contains:
Neomycin sulfate 165,000 IU
Zinc bacitracin 12500 IU.
Hydrocarbon aerosol up to 150 g
Properties:
Bacitracin is a polypeptide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Bacitracin is particularly active against gram-positive microorganisms such as hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci, and some gram-negative pathogens. Resistance to bacitracin is extremely rare.
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
By using a combination of these two antibiotics, a broad spectrum of action of this agent and synergistic action against a number of microorganisms, such as staphylococci, is achieved.
Indications:
It is used for the treatment and prevention of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to neomycin and/or bacitracin: bacterial skin infections of limited prevalence.
Method of administration and dosage:
Externally. Shake well before applying. Spray the aerosol in a thin layer from a distance of 20-25 cm onto the affected areas 2-4 times a day for adults and children; if appropriate – under a bandage. The area of powder application should not exceed 1% of the body surface area (which corresponds to the size of the patient’s palm).
When applied topically, the dose of neomycin for adults and children under 18 years of age should not exceed 1 g/day (about 200 g of powder for external use) for 7 days.
Patients with impaired liver/kidney function, elderly patients do not require dose adjustment.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to bacitracin, neomycin, aminoglycoside antibiotics, excipients of the drug;
– infections of the external auditory canal with perforation of the eardrum;
– use of powder to treat eye infections.
Precautions:
In case of using the drug in children, patients with impaired liver and kidney function, as well as in case of a large area of the treated surface, long-term use and deep skin lesions, it is recommended to consult a doctor beforehand. Patients who have developed an allergy or superinfection should discontinue the drug. During long-term treatment, attention should be paid to the possible growth of resistant microorganisms. In such situations, an appropriate treatment strategy should be chosen.
Side effects:
The drug is generally well tolerated when applied topically.
From the skin and subcutaneous tissues: rarely – allergic reactions manifested as contact dermatitis, allergic reaction to neomycin; frequency unknown – allergic reactions in the form of redness and dryness of the skin, skin rash and itching (with prolonged use).
From the kidneys and urinary tract: frequency unknown – nephrotoxicity.
Storage method:
Store at temperatures not exceeding 25 degrees.
Package:
The cardboard box contains a 150 ml aluminum bottle and paper instructions.
