Properties:

Famotidine is a competitive histamine H2 receptor inhibitor. It works by reducing the amount of acid secreted by the stomach.

Indications:

Treatment and prevention of ulcers in the stomach and intestines. Conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions in which acid flows from the esophagus into the stomach, causing heartburn.

Method of administration and dosage:

For heartburn, dyspepsia and upset stomach – 1 tablet as needed when symptoms occur or 30-60 minutes before meals; no more than 2 tablets per day. If symptoms persist for 5 days or if symptoms recur within 2 weeks of completing the course, a clinical trial is required.

Ulcer of the duodenum: Initial therapy: The recommended dose is 1 tablet (40 mg) daily, at night. Treatment should be for 4-8 weeks, but the duration can be shortened if the ulcer has healed. Maintenance therapy: To prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcer, it is recommended to continue treatment with 1/2 tablet (20 mg) daily, at night. Duration: 12 months.

Benign gastric ulcer: the recommended dose is 1 tablet (40 mg) per day, at night. Treatment is carried out for 4-8 weeks.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: should be initiated with a dose of 20 mg every 6 hours. The dosage should be adapted to the individual patient’s needs and should be continued for as long as clinically indicated.

GERD; erosions or ulcerations of the esophagus; prevention of recurrence of symptoms, erosions or ulcerations: the recommended dose is 20 mg twice daily. Efficacy studies have not been conducted over six months.

For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, the dose may be reduced by half or the dosing interval may be increased to 36-48 hours.

Contraindications:

Childhood; hypersensitivity to any component of the drug; pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions:

Gastric malignancies should be excluded. Famotidine does not exclude the presence of gastric malignancy. No dosage adjustment is required in the elderly.

Side effects:

Headache, constipation, or diarrhea; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; fast heartbeat with severe dizziness; unexplained muscle pain, weakness, fever, unusual tiredness, dark-colored urine.

Storage method:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees in a dry place out of reach of children.

Package:

The cardboard box contains 2 blisters of 10 tablets each and paper instructions.
