Each ml of solution contains:
Sodium picosulfate 7.5 mg
Auxiliary components:
Sodium methylparaben, 70% liquid sorbitol, purified water.
Properties:
A laxative of the triarylmethane group, activated in the large intestine by bacterial sulfatases; the substance released in this case stimulates the sensitive nerve endings of the intestinal mucosa, increases its motility. The use of the drug is not accompanied by tenesmus and intestinal spasms.
Indications:
Constipation;
Conditions requiring relief of defecation.
Method of administration and dosage:
Adults take 17-33 drops per day (5 – 10 mg), preferably at night.
Children over 4 years of age take 8-17 drops (2.5 – 5 mg) per day.
It is important to take into account that defecation occurs approximately 8-9 hours after taking the drug.
Contraindications:
– intestinal obstruction;
– acute inflammatory bowel diseases;
– acute diseases of the abdominal organs (including acute appendicitis, nonspecific ulcerative colitis, peritonitis);
– acute abdominal pain, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, which may indicate acute inflammatory diseases mentioned above;
– abdominal pain of unknown origin;
-severe dehydration;
– hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate and other components of the drug.
Precautions:
Like other laxatives, Picolax should not be taken daily for a long period of time. If daily use of laxatives is necessary, the cause of constipation should be determined. Long-term use of laxatives can lead to electrolyte imbalance and hypokalemia, and can also cause “addiction” and constipation due to the “rebound” effect. Use with caution in the elderly, with hypokalemia, increased magnesium levels in the blood, and weakened patients.
