Properties:
ORS – powders for the preparation of a balanced glucose-salt solution, which is used to prevent and correct dehydration. It is used for vomiting and diarrhea, regardless of the cause of their occurrence. It is used to correct the imbalance of electrolytes and fluid.
Indications:
Prevention and treatment of dehydration due to acute intestinal infection.
Replenishment of extracellular fluid volume in case of excessive diuresis.
Method of administration and dosage:
The contents of one sachet must be dissolved in 200 ml of water.
To prepare 1 liter of solution, 5 sachets are required.
Take 200-400 ml after each episode of diarrhea.
To prepare the solution, water must first be boiled and cooled.
The solution must be consumed within an hour after preparation. It is permissible to store the prepared solution in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
severe dehydration;
coma;
intestinal obstruction;
severe vomiting;
diarrhea due to cholera;
glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Precautions:
Given the composition of the drug, caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, impaired liver or kidney function, as well as in patients on a low-salt (sodium and/or potassium) diet.
Side effects:
The drug solution has a slightly alkaline reaction, therefore it can affect drugs whose absorption depends on the pH of the intestinal contents.
Diarrhea itself can alter the absorption of many drugs that are absorbed in the small or large intestine or drugs that are metabolized by enterohepatic circulation.
Storage method:
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees.
