Each tablet contains:
Loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg.
Auxiliary components:
Gelatin, mannitol, aspartame, mint flavor.
Properties:
Antidiarrheal agent. Reduces the tone and motility of intestinal smooth muscles, apparently by binding to opioid receptors in the intestinal wall. Inhibits the release of acetylcholine and prostaglandins, reducing peristalsis and increasing the transit time of contents through the intestine.
Increases the tone of the anal sphincter. The effect occurs quickly and lasts for 4-6 hours.
Indications:
Symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea of various origins (including allergic, emotional, medicinal, radiation; with changes in diet and quality of food, with metabolic and absorption disorders; as an adjuvant in diarrhea of infectious origin). Regulation of stool in patients with ileostomy.
Method of administration and dosage:
For adults with acute diarrhea, the first dose is 2 tablets, then 1 tablet after each bowel movement in case of loose stools.
The course of treatment is no longer than 2 weeks.
For chronic diarrhea, the first dose is 1 tablet, the maintenance dose is selected so that the stool frequency is 1-2 times a day (2-12 mg/day).
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction; constipation, flatulence, subileus, acute dysentery (as monotherapy), acute ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis caused by the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics; age under 18, first trimester of pregnancy, hypersensitivity to loperamide.
Precautions:
If there is no effect after 2 days of using loperamide, it is necessary to clarify the diagnosis and exclude the infectious genesis of diarrhea.
Use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction.
Side effects:
From the digestive system: abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, constipation, dry mouth.
From the central nervous system: increased fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness.
