Description
Trade name:
Timolol
Compound:
Each 1 ml of solution contains:
Timolol maleate 5 mg
Auxiliary components:
Benzalkonium chloride 0.01%.
Properties:
Non-selective beta-blocker. When applied locally in ophthalmology, it reduces both normal and elevated intraocular pressure by reducing the formation of intraocular fluid and improving its outflow, does not affect accommodation and pupil size.
The maximum effect develops 1-2 hours after installation in the eyes. The effect lasts up to 24 hours.
Indications:
Increased intraocular pressure, chronic open-angle glaucoma.
Method of administration and dosage:
1 drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 2 times a day.
If intraocular pressure cannot be reduced to the desired level, Timolol may be used in combination with other drugs to lower intraocular pressure.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug, bronchial asthma (in history), COPD, atrioventricular block II and III degree, sinoatrial block, bradycardia, SSS, arterial hypotension, chronic heart failure IIB-III stage, acute heart failure, vasomotor rhinitis, Raynaud’s disease and other obliterating vascular diseases, metabolic acidosis, lactation.
Precautions:
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Safety and efficacy during pregnancy have not been studied.
Use with caution in patients with impaired liver and kidney function, diabetes mellitus (especially labile). With prolonged use increases the level of triglycerides in the blood plasma.
Safety and efficacy in children have not been studied.
In ophthalmology, it is used for a long time, therefore, during the treatment period, it is necessary to examine the cornea at least once every 6 months, monitor the function of lacrimation and the state of the visual fields.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery:
During the treatment period, you should refrain from engaging in potentially dangerous activities that require increased attention and rapid psychomotor reactions.
When used in ophthalmology, immediately after instillation, visual acuity may decrease and psychomotor reactions may slow down, so you should refrain from engaging in potentially dangerous activities that require increased attention for 30 minutes.
Side effects:
From the organ of vision: with local application, irritation and hyperemia of the conjunctiva, skin of the eyelids, burning and itching in the eyes, lacrimation, photophobia, swelling of the corneal epithelium, corneal hypoesthesia, diplopia, ptosis, dry eyes are possible.
Other side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, arrhythmia, and bronchospasm.
