Description
Trade name:
Depovit B12
Compound:
Each ampoule of 1 ml contains:
Hydroxocobalamin acetate 1.04mg
Auxiliary components:
Sodium dihydrogen phosphate, water for injection.
Properties:
Belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins. It is a metabolite of cyanocobalamin. Unlike it, in the hydroxocobalamin molecule the cobalt atom is bound not to the cyano-, but to the oxy-group. It is necessary for the process of hematopoiesis, the formation of epithelial cells, the functioning of the nervous system (due to the effect on the synthesis of myelin).
In the body it is converted into an active coenzyme form faster than cyanocobalamin. It remains in the blood longer, because it binds more strongly to plasma proteins and is excreted in the urine more slowly.
Indications:
B12 deficiency anemia, Leber’s disease (hereditary optic atrophy), Addison’s pernicious anemia.
Method of administration and dosage:
1 ampoule intramuscularly every other day for 1-2 weeks, then for maintenance 1 ampoule every 3 months
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to hydroxocobalamin.
Precautions:
Before starting therapy, the diagnosis should be verified, since the use of hydroxocobalamin in a dose greater than 10 mcg/day can cause a hematological response in patients with folate deficiency. Unjustified use of hydroxocobalamin can mask the true diagnosis.
Side effects:
Rare: allergic reactions (itching, exanthema, anaphylactic reactions), nausea, dizziness, arrhythmia (possible at the beginning of treatment).
Storage method:
At a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
Package:
The cardboard box contains 5 ampoules of 1 ml each and paper instructions.
