Description
Trade name:
Garamycin 20 mg/2 ml 6 ampules.
Composition:
Each ampoule contains:
Gentamicin (as sulfate) 20 mg
Excipients:
Methylparaben, propylparaben, sodium bisulfite, disodium edetate, water for injection.
Properties:
A broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic. Has a bactericidal effect.
Highly active against aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp.
Also active against aerobic gram-positive cocci: Staphylococcus spp. (including those resistant to penicillins and other antibiotics), some strains of Streptococcus spp.
Indications:
Infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to gentamicin: upper and lower respiratory tract infections (including bronchitis, pneumonia, pleural empyema), complicated urogenital infections (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, gonorrhea, endometritis), bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis), abdominal infections (peritonitis, pelvic peritonitis), CNS infections (meningitis), purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues, wound infection, burn infection.
Method of administration and dosage:
Adults: the daily dose is 3-5 mg/kg/day, the frequency of administration is determined based on the severity of the course.
Urinary tract infections: dose 160 mg 1 time/day. Duration of treatment is 7-10 days
Children aged one year and older: 3-6 mg/kg/day, administered in 1-2 administrations.
Children from 1 month – 4.5-7.5 mg/kg/day in 1-2 administrations.
Newborns – 4-7 mg/kg/day in one administration.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to gentamicin and other aminoglycoside antibiotics, auditory neuritis, severe chronic renal failure with azotemia and uremia, pregnancy, lactation.
Precautions:
Administer with caution to newborns (up to 1 month), incl. premature babies (due to the high risk of ototoxic and nephrotoxic effects),
myasthenia, parkinsonism, botulism (aminoglycosides can cause a violation of neuromuscular transmission, which leads to further weakening of skeletal muscles), dehydration, renal failure, old age.
Side effects:
Nausea, vomiting, anemia, leukopenia, oliguria, proteinuria, muscle twitching, paresthesia, numbness, tinnitus, hearing loss, skin rash.
Storage method:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
Packaging:
A cardboard box contains paper instructions and six ampoules of 2 ml.
