Description
Trade name:
Augmentin
Composition:
Each tablet contains:
Amoxicillin 875 mg
Clavulanic acid 125 mg
Excipients: magnesium stearate – 14.5 mg, sodium carboxymethyl starch – 29 mg, colloidal silicon dioxide – 10 mg, microcrystalline cellulose – 243.16 mg.
Properties:
Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin (beta-lactam antibiotic) that inhibits one or more enzymes (known as penicillin-binding proteins) in the process of biosynthesis of bacterial peptide-binding proteins, which is the unifying structural component of the bacterial cell wall. Inhibition of peptide-glycan synthesis leads to thinning of the cell wall, which subsequently leads to lysis and death of the cell. Amoxicillin is destroyed by lactamases produced by resistant bacteria, and therefore the spectrum of activity of amoxicillin itself does not include microorganisms that produce these enzymes.
Clavulanic acid is a lactamase inhibitor structurally related to penicillins. Clavulanic acid blocks the action of some lactamase enzymes, thereby preventing the inactivation of amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid alone does not exhibit clinically significant antibacterial effect.
Indications:
Augmentin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in adults and children:
Dental infections (e.g. periodontitis, maxillary sinusitis, severe dental abscesses with spreading cellulitis) – for tablets of 500 mg / 125 mg or 875 mg / 125 mg;
Acute bacterial sinusitis
Acute otitis media
Exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
Community-acquired pneumonia
Cystitis
Pyelonephritis
Skin and soft tissue infections, in particular cellulitis, animal bites, severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis.
Bone and joint infections, in particular osteomyelitis
Official guidelines for the rational use of antibacterial agents should be taken into account.
Method of administration and dosage:
For optimal absorption and to reduce possible side effects from the digestive system, Augmentin is recommended to be taken at the beginning of a meal.
The dosage regimen is set individually depending on the severity and localization of the infection, the sensitivity of the pathogen.
Augmentin tablets should not be given to children under 12 years of age.
Recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years: Tablets 875 mg + 125 mg should be used only in patients with CC > 30 ml / min, while no adjustment of the dosage regimen is required.
The recommended dose is one tablet every 12 hours
The minimum course of antibacterial therapy is 5 days.
Treatment should not last more than 14 days without reviewing the clinical situation.
Contraindications:
Impaired renal function (CC 30 ml / min) – (for tablets 875 mg / 125 mg), hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, other components of the drug, beta-lactam antibiotics (eg, penicillins, cephalosporins) in the anamnesis; previous episodes of jaundice or impaired liver function when using a combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid in the anamnesis.
Precautions:
Before starting treatment with Augmentin, it is necessary to collect a detailed anamnesis concerning previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins or other substances that cause an allergic reaction in the patient.
Serious and sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reactions) to penicillins have been described. The risk of such reactions is highest in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins. In case of an allergic reaction, it is necessary to stop treatment with Augmentin and start appropriate alternative therapy.
Side effects:
Infectious and parasitic diseases: common – candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes.
From the gastrointestinal tract: adults: very common – diarrhea; common – nausea, vomiting;- children: common – diarrhea, nausea, vomiting;
Adverse events from the liver are observed mainly in men and elderly patients and may be associated with long-term therapy. These adverse effects are very rare in children.
Storage method:
In a cool, dry place at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees.
Packaging:
A cardboard box contains 2 blisters of 7 tablets, paper instructions.
