Properties:

Alpha1-adrenergic receptor blocker; agent for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Selectively blocks postsynaptic alpha1A-adrenoreceptors of smooth muscles of the prostate gland, bladder neck, prostatic urethra. As a result, the tone of smooth muscles of the above formations decreases, urine outflow is facilitated. At the same time, symptoms of obstruction and irritation associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia are reduced. The therapeutic effect appears approximately 2 weeks after the start of treatment.

Tamsulosin has a significantly less pronounced ability to block 1B-adrenergic receptors of vascular smooth muscles, so its effect on systemic blood pressure is insignificant.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia.

A digital rectal examination and, if necessary, determination of prostate-specific antigen should be performed before initiating treatment and regularly during therapy. No dosage adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment.
